The Public School Old Boys’ played against Ealing Lawn Tennis Club on Saturday, 12th August, and once again, the fixture was played on the club’s fantastic grass courts. The PUBs found themselves ‘all square’ after the first round of matches, with a close match for the first pair (Jono Gomez and debutant Ant Hudson), who won in a third set championship tiebreak.

PSOBLTA: Ant Hudson, Jono Gomez (guest), Brad Keenes and Max Clarke
Ealing Lawn Tennis Club: Peter Asthury, Alex Gish, Marius Gregor and Richard Liang

The second round of matches proved just as dramatic, with the PUBs second-string pair (Max Clarke and Brad Keenes) clutching victory in another third set championship tiebreak, in what appeared to be an age-old partnership!

PSOBLTA first pair – Ant Hudson and Jono Gomez:

Beat Peter Asthury and Alex Gish 6-3 2-6 10-5

Beat Marius Gregor and Richard Liang 6-2 6-3

PSOBLTA second pair – Brad Keenes and Max Clarke:

Lost to Peter Asthury and Alex Gish 2-6 4-6

Beat Marius Gregor and Richard Liang 7-5 2-6 10-8

Overall, it was a superb afternoon of tennis and a great result of 3-1 for the PUBs. Both teams ventured off for sandwiches and beers (for the PUBs team!), whilst discussing some of the turning points of the afternoon! Thanks to Ealing Lawn Tennis Club and Men’s 1st team player, James Shacklock, for putting on a great fixture and match supper. We look forward to seeing you in 2024!

Ben Rogers – Match Manager
