The annual fixture against Bromsgrove School was played on Saturday 20th May, and Just like last year’s fixture, it was an extremely hot day. For the first time this fixture was a three pair match, and given the school’s relatively new tennis academy set up, we knew that we might have our work cut out! The PUBS team consisted of Nick Jones, Paul Siviter, Nick Grove, Stuart Shanon, Paul Cowie and debutant James Douglas-Osborne.

Bromsgrove School turned out a strong team, with some nationally ranked players, and they had just come off a 9-0 win in their previous fixture against Bloxham School. However, the PUBS were going to try an put up a tougher challenge for the students, and after two rounds of very close matches it was 3-3, with opposite numbers to play each other in the last round. With two matches completed in the last round, the scores were tied at 4-4, and the final match on court between both first pairs came down to a tie-break, which the PUBS pairing of Siviter & Jones (both Old Bromsgrovians) defeating their opponents in a very close finish.

Thanks goes to Bromsgrove School for hosting the PUBS, and putting on an enjoyable match tea and beers after the fixture. We look forward to next year’s fixture.
