The PUBs travelled to Gerarrds Cross Tennis Club in their 2nd ever fixture with the Chiltern’s based club.
First up saw number 1 pair, BGS and Jon Basell take on Gerrards Cross 2nd pair. BGS and JB took the 1st set comfortably 6-2 and then secured the final set 6-4 to chalk up the PUB’s first win. On the other court, Tom Knapp and Kit Spencer were being put through their paces by GX’s 1st pair eventually losing that match 6-2, 6-2.
With the match evenly poised, it was down to the last rubbers that would decide the fate of the fixture.
BGS and JB narrowly lost the 1st set on a tie-break eventually succumbing 6-3 in the in final set. It was therefore left to the PUB’s 2nd pair to salvage a draw. Kit and Tom started well and won the 1st set 6-4. Sadly they could not take that momentum through to the 2nd set going down 3-6. Attention turned to the Championship tie-breaker where unfortunately, despite some nail biting points, Kit and Tom lost the breaker 10-4.
Despite the PUB’s losing the fixture 3-1, the matches were extremely competitive and another day the result could well have been different. A special mention must go out to Kit Spencer for taking the time out to feature for the PUB’s whilst back in the UK from the Bahamas – true commitment to the mighty PUB’s!
