PSOBLTA 1st pair: Ed Kandell and Ben Rogers:
- beat Lewis Barnes and Gary Stewart 6-3, 6-1
- beat Neil Howitt and Tim Prosser 6-1, 6-3
PSOBLTA 2nd pair: George Donnelly and Casper Scheible:
- beat Neil Howitt and Tim Prosser 6-2, 6-4
- beat Martin Guntrip and Tim Thomas 7-5, 7-6
PSOBLTA 3rd pair: Adrian Blackman and Davor Pavlovic:
- lost to Lewis Barnes and Gary Stewart 6-1, 7-6
- beat Martin Guntrip and Tim Thomas 6-3, 6-4
The first match post-lockdown for the PSOBLTA and what a match to come back to, the most prestigious match of the season against the AELTC. The match is played for the Peter Jackson Cup (in honour of our ex-President). The sun was shining and the grass courts looking as good as ever, the scene was set for the battle to commence.
The PSOBLTA team was inspired playing in such fine surroundings and playing some splendid serve and volley tennis. Our first pair of Ed and Ben, secured two solid wins against the AELTC first and second pairs. With our second pair of George and Casper also managing two wins against the AELTC second and third pairs, with a very tight match against the AELTC third pair. Our third pair, Adrian and Davor had a good tussle with the AELTC third pair (Martin and Tim), but the AELTC first pair of Lewis and Gary came through strong.
This resulted in the PSOBLTA retaining the Peter Jackson Cup, a feat which has not been achieved in recent history (if ever!). There is already nervous trepidation on who the AELTC will field next year against the PSOBLTA…
Afterwards, the players enjoyed a fantastic afternoon tea and drinks. With a particular highlight of the day being the (socially-distanced) trophy presentation taking place on Centre Court! Our thanks go to AELTC for looking after us so well and making us feel so welcome. And we look forward to the match in 2021.
